On January 22, 2012, on the occassion of the Day of Unity and Liberty of Ukraine a ceremony of laying flowers at the memorial plaque of Lesya Ukrainka took place in Alexandria.

In his speech during the festive ceremony Ambassador of Ukraine to the Arab Republic of Egypt Yevhen Kyrylenko underlined the importance of the idea of unity for the Ukrainian statehood and paid a tribute to the Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka, whose stay in Egypt in 1909-1913 inspired her for the creation of a poetry cycle «Spring in Egypt».
