An important impulse for building cultural and humanitarian cooperation with Sudan was the foundation of the Ukrainian House in Khartoum under the auspices of the Honorary consulate of Ukraine in Sudan

As of the beginning of 2019, 332 Sudanese students studied in Ukraine. They were mostly interested in getting higher education in Ukraine in the medical sphere, in engineering and technology. Besides they come to Ukraine for post-graduate studies.

The signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the University of Khartoum in May 2025 creates a solid foundation for further engagement in the promising fields of higher education and academic research.

Humanitarian assistance

By Ukrainian President’s Decree No. 380/2018 of 22 November 2018, there was a decision adopted to provide humanitarian assistance to Sudan aimed at contributing to the alleviation of famine.

Furthermore, between February and April 2024, within the framework of the international humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine, 22,265 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat flour were delivered to the Republic of Sudan through the mechanisms of the United Nations World Food Programme.
