On January 25, 2012, Ukraine and Egypt mark an important event – the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
During these last two decades both countries have vividly demonstrated common interest in mutually beneficial cooperation in the interests of both nations.
Regular political consultations between Ukraine and Egypt prove the interest toward bilateral cooperation. Ministerial delegations pay regular visits, Joint Ukrainian-Egyptian Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation holds its meetings on bi-annual basis.
Within the UN family Ukraine and Egypt also cooperate on a broad range of issues. There are no significant diversities in opinions towards topical issues of international and regional agenda. On the contrary, both countries are determined to resolve them in a peaceful way and within the present international legal framework.
It is worth to note the dynamic development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The total amount of trade turnover by goods and services between Ukraine and Egypt for 2011 was 1.472 billion USD. Beginning from 2008 year, Egypt was ranked among the 10 biggest consumers of Ukrainian export, its share in the Ukrainian total export in 2010 was 2.59%, and during the 11 month of 2011 its share was 1.86%. Egypt was ranked as the No. 12 consumer of Ukrainian export in 2011.
In the past years Ukraine and Egypt have strengthened joint cooperation in the oil and gas sphere. Vast potential of further bilateral cooperation exists in the sphere of higher and new technologies, in particular, in space and aviation spheres, as well as in the military and technical cooperation.
Egypt, being one of the leading countries of the Arab world and Africa, remains an important political and economic partner for Ukraine.
Ukraine welcomes the achievements of the people of Egypt on their path towards democracy and freedom and hopes that the positive results of the “January 25 Revolution” will become a firm background for the development of free, democratic and prosperous Egypt.
