Russia Recruits Foreign Nationals for Its War Against Ukraine

Russia is recruiting foreign nationals to fight in its war against Ukraine, including Egyptian citizens.
Promises of employment, education, or high salaries can lead somewhere entirely different from what people expect, namely to the front lines in Ukraine.
To counter these practices, Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has launched the official Stop Russian Recruiters platform.
According to the platform, more than 28,000 citizens of over 135 countries have been recruited into the Russian armed forces, including individuals from Egypt. The platform has already published the stories of two Egyptian citizens who joined the Russian military and were subsequently taken prisoner of war in Ukraine.
The platform provides verified information on recruitment schemes and associated risks, real-life stories of foreign nationals, as well as practical tools for those seeking assistance. Users can anonymously report a recruiter, seek help for someone who has been recruited, or initiate a search for a relative who has ended up serving in the Russian forces.
